Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Heat Wave Persists Over Most of East

The week-old heat wave persisted over most of the Eastern Seaboard, although a cold front from Canada brought 20 degrees of relief to New England. Temperatures in New York, Baltimore, Washington and Philadelphia again climbed past 100 degrees, but the noontime high in Boston was a comfortable 75. Philadelphia youngsters opened street hydrants for relief, and water pressure fell enough drastically.
