Olympic Countdown: CBS announced plans Tuesday for 116 hours of coverage of the 1992 Winter Olympics Games in Albertville, France, from Feb. 8-23. The broadcasts--tape-delayed on the West Coast--will be broken into five parts: weekday mornings, weekday afternoons, prime time, late night and weekend days. CBS Sports currently has crews in Europe and around the United States taping pieces on Olympic athletes, sports and venues to air as one-minute prime-time vignettes beginning in September. CBS Sports President Neal Pilson promised less commercialism of the Games and fewer commercials. “It’s one of the lessons we tried to learn from prior Olympics,” he said.
