2 Nominees Selected for Harbor Commission
Long Beach Mayor Ernie Kell has made two new nominations to the city’s powerful Harbor Commission, including a woman who would be the commission’s first Latino member. One of the nominees would replace Commissioner George Talin Sr., who is under investigation for possible conflicts of interest stemming from his business dealings with the city.
The two nominees, who must be confirmed by the City Council, are Carmen Perez, vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, who would replace outgoing commission President Robert Langslet, and Roy Hearrean, head of an investment firm, who would replace Talin. Talin, whose term expired July 1, had not said whether he would seek reappointment to the five-member body.
The former commissioner is also being investigated by the district attorney’s office for allegations that his company, Talin Tire Inc., billed customers--including the county--for work it never performed.
