Raw Emotion in Need of Polish in ‘Me Thinks’

Share

At 18, Felix Cisneros III is a playwright and director-in-training, and his four-scene evening, “Me Thinks, Me Knows,” at the Harman Avenue Theatre, suggests that the training is coming along, but with much work to be done. That work should now be done behind closed doors, since it’s in no way ready for the public.

Whether it’s a revisionist take on Adam and Eve, a symbolic polemic against the brainwashing effect of American imagery, a dialogue between political prisoners in a future police state, or people writing letters to God, Cisneros’ scenes bubble out of an emotional pot without being filtered through craft. They’re doubly hurt by an emotionally flat cast.

“Me Thinks, Me Knows,” Harman Avenue Theatre, 522 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, Fridays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Ends Aug. 17. $12; (213) 957-4961. Running time: 2 hours, 10 minutes.
