America West Plans Layoffs: America West Airlines, which is reducing its fleet of aircraft and dropping some destinations, has notified hundreds of employees that they may be laid off. The Phoeniz-based ariline has written to about 500 of its 2,500 to 3,000 customer service representatives, to say their jobs may be eliminated by Aug. 8, a spokesman said.
