California IN BRIEF : OAKLAND : Suspect in Big Theft Arrested in Texas
Authorities said Thomas Hagins, the man suspected of stealing $773,000 from the Oakland Coliseum concessionaire, was arrested after police got help from a quick-thinking freight manager. Hagins, 29, who managed concessions at the Coliseum, was known as an exemplary worker by day. At night, he patronized topless bars and prostitutes--pastimes that helped detectives track him down in Texas, authorities said. Hagins was arrested Saturday when he returned to his Irving, Tex., hotel room from a striptease joint. Four boxes believed full of cash were recovered in Dallas, where they had been shipped by bus, police said. Hagins went to collect the parcels on Friday, but a clerk--alerted by police only minutes earlier--told him they hadn’t arrived, authorities said.
