GM to Close Van Nuys Plant

Share

The closing of the General Motors Van Nuys assembly plant is a result of the restructuring of the U.S. auto industry to deal with the global market and changing competitive environments (front page, July 20). Perhaps the U.S. auto industry should consider the bold type of move that IBM and Apple recently announced.

American auto makers could cooperate on technology development, standardize components and possibly benefit from economies of scale by manufacturing common components. The objective would be to increase market share and return industrial employment to the United States.
