Shiley Faces Lawsuit: Heart-valve manufacturer Shiley Inc. faces a large class-action lawsuit in Florida on behalf of people who were implanted with the company’s potentially flawed devices. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Miami, seeks class-action status on behalf of 1,000 Florida residents who received Bjork-Shiley Convexo-Concave heart valves manufactured by Irvine-based Shiley between 1979 and 1986. Also named in the suit are Pfizer Inc., the New York-based parent of Shiley; Pfizer Hospital Products Group Inc., and Howmedica Inc. Robert Fauteux, a Shiley spokesman, said he had not seen the complaint.
