BIG FLOCK: As America’s third-largest Protestant congregation, Calvary Chapel in Santa Ana plays a starring role in this week’s issue of Time magazine. . . . In a story on “the rise of super-churches that boast mammoth memberships,” pastor Chuck Smith is pictured conducting a group ocean baptism. To accommodate its flock of 12,000, the church has four Sunday services and scads of nightly gatherings. Says assistant pastor L.E. Romaine: “We have everything but Weight Watchers, I’d guess.”
