GOINGS ON SANTA BARBARA : Latino Revelry : Now in its 67th year, the ‘Old Spanish Days Fiesta’ has become an established celebration of song, dance, history and life.

It all began in 1924--the brainchild of several Santa Barbara groups seeking to bring attention to their city and remind residents and visitors of the city’s Spanish heritage.

Sixty-seven years later, the “Old Spanish Days Fiesta” has become an established celebration of Spanish and Mexican song, dance, food, history and life.

This year’s festivities kicked off yesterday and will continue through Sunday. The list of events is extensive, so take a deep breath and read on:

* Las Noches de Ronda: This variety show is packed with Latino music and dancing, ranging from classical to salsa. Acts include the John Estrada Ballet Folklorico, the Juan Talavera Dancers and classical guitarist Carlos Gonzales of Camarillo. There will be performances tonight, Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. at the County Courthouse Sunken Gardens at 118 E. Figueroa St. Admission is free.

* Las Tardes de Ronda: This is the junior version of Las Noches de Ronda . All of the dancers are younger than 15 years old. Show time is Saturday at 1:30 p.m., again at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens.

* Festival Parade: This parade Friday is as extravagant as any event during the celebration. More than 1,300 participants are involved in this predominantly equestrian parade that begins at Castillo Street and Cabrillo Boulevard and finishes at State and Sola streets. The parade will feature historical costumes, antique carriages and wagons, floats depicting significant events in the history of Santa Barbara, and a palomino or two. Starting time is 1 p.m.

* Children’s Parade: More than 2,000 children and their various pets will begin their march Saturday at 10 a.m. The children will be in smaller costumes, but ones every bit as festive as those of their adult counterparts the previous day. The parade will move down State Street, from Sola Street to Cota Street.

* Fiesta Concert: The West Coast Symphony of Santa Barbara will celebrate the fiesta, as well as its 25th anniversary, with a free concert Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens. The program includes “Hungarian Fantasy” by Franz Liszt, and “Symphony No. 4 in F minor” by Peter Tchaikovsky.

* Fiesta Rodeo: Watch bronco riding, bull riding and roping events at the Earl Warren Showgrounds today and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission for adults is $12 (box seats) and $6 (general). For children it’s $3 (general). The show grounds are located off U.S. 101 at Las Positas Road.

* Mexican marketplaces: There will be two outdoor marketplaces open noon to midnight through Saturday. Each will have authentic food and souvenir items. The Mercado del Norte, which will also have puppet shows and games for the kids, will be located at the corner of Las Positas Road and State Street, and the Mercado de la Guerra will be set up on Anacapa Street near City Hall.

* Crafts Fair: The usual Sunday crafts fair along Cabrillo Boulevard will be preceded by a Saturday crafts fair as part of the fiesta festivities. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

* Mariachis: The Santa Barbara County Bowl will have a Mariachi USA show Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $16.50 to $51.50. Call 966-7566. The bowl is located at 1122 N. Milpas St.

* More entertainment: The Lobero Theatre will feature Carolina Russek and her dancers at the “ Fiesta Ole “ Spanish/Mexican music and dance shows Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16.50 and $18.50. The theater is located at 33 E. Canon Perdido St. Call 963-0761.

Don’t forget the next concert at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. It will be the Gipsy Kings Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Bowl Box Office, 1122 N. Milpas St., 966-7566, or the Arlington Theatre Box Office, 1317 State St. Or you can call Ticketmaster at 966-7566. Tickets are going for $23 and $20.

Open those calendars. Santa Barbara City College recently announced its schedule for the 1991-1992 season.

Here’s what patrons have to look forward to: “ Les Liaisons Dangereuses ,” Nov. 1-16, and “Whose Life Is It Anyway?” Dec. 12-21, will finish up 1991.
