Three officers who allowed a naked boy to stay with Jeffrey L. Dahmer were in his apartment during the incident, two months before dismembered body parts were found there, police union officials said Thursday.

At the time, photos of previous victims were strewn on the floor and Dahmer has since said a body was in an adjoining room, a newspaper reported Thursday.

But Laurie Eggert, a union lawyer, said that the officers saw no evidence to suggest anything was wrong.

Also Thursday, authorities released a recording of the officers’ conversations on the police radio.

“Intoxicated Asian, naked male,” one officer said, with laughter audible. “Was returned to his sober boyfriend. My partner is going to get deloused at the station,” the officer said, with more laughter.

The Milwaukee Journal, citing sources familiar with the Police Department’s internal investigation, said Dahmer told police that he killed the 14-year-old boy as soon as the officers left.

The newspaper quoted one source as saying that the police officers had carried the boy, Konerak Sinthasomphone, into the apartment.

Two women had called police in May over concern for the Laotian boy’s safety after seeing him running down the street. He was nude, dazed, bleeding and being chased by Dahmer, they said.

Later, a relative of those women called police back and spoke to one of the officers who had investigated the complaint, insisting that the naked male was a child. But the officer told her that “it’s a boyfriend-boyfriend thing.”

Eggert said the officers found no evidence that the boy was bleeding and that paramedics called to the scene determined that he did not require treatment.

She said that the officers did not see any blood and that they tried to interview the boy but he appeared highly intoxicated and “did not respond.” She said Dahmer was “calm, relaxed and showed no sign of trying to hide anything.”

In the tape released Thursday, the woman who called police back after the incident told an officer: “ . . . Young child being molested . . . no information was taken . . . . I am sure further information must be needed. The boy was naked and bleeding.”

The woman later questioned the officer six times as to whether the naked male was a child.

“Are you positive, because this child doesn’t even speak English . . . “ the woman said.

“It’s all taken care of, ma’am,” the officer said.

“Are you sure?” she asked.

“Ma’am. I can’t make it any more clear. It’s all taken care of. That’s, you know. He’s with his boyfriend . . . “ the officer said.

“I mean are you positive this is an adult?” the woman asked again.

“Ma’am. Like I explained to you. It is all taken care of. It’s as positive as I can be. I can’t do anything about somebody’s sexual preferences in life,” he said.

Eggert said the officers believed the boy was a man who was willingly living with Dahmer.

The three officers have been suspended with pay, and an investigation has been ordered.

Police say Dahmer, 31, has confessed to slaying 17 persons in 13 years.
