The head of Poland’s central bank was suspended and his deputy was among seven other people arrested in Poland’s biggest financial scandal. The Polish news agency PAP said Grzegorz Wojtowicz, president of the National Bank of Poland, was suspended pending a vote on his dismissal demanded by President Lech Walesa. A senior official at the National Bank of Poland said its first deputy president, Wojciech Prokop, had been arrested earlier this week on charges of large-scale mismanagement of state funds.
