WORLD IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : Soviets Will Renew Full Ties, TV Says
The Soviet Union plans to renew full diplomatic ties with Israel in September, Israel’s state-run television said. It said an announcement to that effect will be made at the U.N. The Soviet Union cut diplomatic relations with Israel after the 1967 Middle East War, in which Israel captured land from Moscow’s Arab allies. Ties have warmed in recent years and were raised to the consular level in 1987-1988.
