Carter Hawley Creditors Seek Delay: The creditors committee in Carter Hawley Hale Stores’ bankruptcy case is asking bankruptcy Judge James R. Dooley for more time to evaluate a bid for the company by the Zell/Chilmark Fund. The creditors want the judge to delay from Aug. 19 to Oct. 1 a hearing that could clear the way for the bid to proceed. According to a court filing, the creditors say they want to further review the adequacy of the bid and the possible alternatives. Chicago-based Zell/Chilmark has proposed to invest $270 million in Carter Hawley, parent of the Broadway department stores, in exchange for a stake of as much as 90% of the company.
