Kennedy Center Honor: Robert Shaw, principal guest conductor for the San Diego Symphony, has been named one of seven 1991 Kennedy Center honorees. One of the nation’s principal interpreters of choral music, Shaw, 75, was appointed to the San Diego Symphony in 1989. He also is music director emeritus and conductor laureate of the Atlanta Symphony. The other honorees this year are singer Roy Acuff, writers Betty Comden and Adolph Green, dancers Fayard and Harold Nicholas and actor Gregory Peck. They will be saluted at a gala performance Dec. 8 at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House; the program will be broadcast on CBS later this year.
