Doctors Try to Improve Image: The American Medical Assn. launched its first national magazine advertising campaign in an attempt to polish the image of its more than 250,000 member physicians. The Chicago-based AMA developed the ads after a survey indicated that people trust their own doctors but not the medical profession as a whole, spokesman Larry E. Joyce said. A citizens’ group called the ad campaign “smoke and mirrors.”
