Military Personnel Arrested on Charges of Killing Civilians

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala —
Seven members of the Guatemalan military were arrested last week on charges of killing 11 civilians found by a roadside in southern Guatemala, authorities said.
The victims, 10 men and a woman, were found on Aug. 2 with their hands tied and showing signs of torture near the town of Escuintla. All had been shot in the head. They included two truck drivers and a local primary school teacher.
