BUENA PARK : Council to Consider Buying 2 Properties

Share

The City Council tonight will consider purchasing two properties to make way for the proposed Buena Park Faire shopping center.

Owners of the properties have been negotiating with the city for several months and have reached agreements, according to city staff. Both properties are in the city’s redevelopment zone near Artesia and Manchester boulevards.

The first property, a single-family home at 7441 E. 4th St., is owned by Evelyn Gerlich, who, according to the city staff, approached the city about selling her home. The council will consider offering Gerlich $120,000 for the property. If the offer is accepted, she will also be paid $10,000 for moving expenses.

In addition, the city will have to pay to demolish her home and remove asbestos, bringing total costs for the acquisition to nearly $150,000.

The second property under consideration is the Sherwood Nutritional Facility, at 6115 Manchester Blvd. The council will consider offering $1.1 million to purchase the industrial plant and property. Again, the purchase price has been agreed upon by the owners, according to city staff.

The small plant, which manufacturers liquid nutritional foods, has been closed since April. All of its operations were transferred to Michigan.

Money for all acquisitions in the redevelopment zone comes out of a special fund established by the city’s Redevelopment Agency.
