Santa Rosa-based Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. announced the appointment of Herbert M. Dwight as chairman, president and chief executive, succeeding founder Rolf F. Illsley, who is retiring.

Most recently, Dwight served as chairman and chief executive of Superconductor Technologies Inc., a Santa Barbara-based company involved in research and development of high-temperature superconductors. He is also a trustee of Stanford University.

Illsley will continue to consult with the company for about two years.
