Voluntary settlement discussions have begun by attorneys involved in the lawsuits filed in the death of Hank Gathers, the Loyola Marymount basketball player who collapsed March 4, 1990, while playing in a basketball game and died shortly thereafter of a heart disorder.

Retired California Justice Jack T. Trotter has begun conferences with attorneys representing the Gathers’ family and those representing the 12 defendants, including the university and the doctors who treated Gathers for his heart condition.
