San Gabriel City Clerk Resigns

Share

San Gabriel City Clerk Charles H. Faulkner retired Tuesday.

Faulkner, 78, was appointed to the part-time post in 1983 and later was elected to two four-year terms. Faulkner said he decided to leave office early because of health problems, which he did not specify.

The City Council named Deputy City Clerk Cynthia Bookter to fill out his term. Bookter, who has held the full-time deputy’s position for seven years, said she plans to run for the post in April.

The council also adopted a city attorney’s recommendation to combine both jobs and add the part-time clerk’s salary of $700 a month to Bookter’s current salary of $2,670 a month. The clerk oversees elections and voter registration, prepares council agendas and records its actions.
