Prime Minister Brian Mulroney said Wednesday that Canada will soon restore trade credits and technical assistance to the Soviet Union that were frozen following the attempted coup.

“We will be reinstituting trade credits and technical assistance programs shortly,” Mulroney told reporters.

Mulroney said much of the credit for the failure of the coup belonged to Russian Federation President Boris N. Yeltsin, who displayed “extraordinary leadership” during the crisis.
