CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : PORT HUENEME : Residents Sue Over City’s ‘View Tax’
The leaders of eight homeowner associations sued Port Hueneme, claiming that the city’s new “view tax” on property near the beach is illegal. The suit seeks to overturn a revenue-boosting measure approved last month by the City Council that would require property owners near the beach to pay a special assessment depending on the view from their property and their proximity to the ocean. Many of the 1,250 affected property owners say the entire city reaps the benefits of the beach and should share the tax. A Port Hueneme spokeswoman said city officials have not seen the suit and had no comment.
