That Chicken Boy Can Work Magic

Share

INEXPLICABLY ALL SHOPPED OUT? HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE HELP OF CHICKEN BOY?: It’s a happy day in armchair shopping land now that the new “Chicken Boy Catalog For a Perfect World” has arrived. And in it is the Chicken Boy Jinx Removing T-shirt, strewn with good luck symbols.

The shirt, made of an exceptionally smooth black cotton, is printed with white line drawings (two of which are pictured) of a serpent, a lucky cat, a “moolah” treasure chest, Cupid, the devil and plenty more. According to the catalogue, black and white are “traditional jinx-removing colors.”

What’s more, the shirt’s providers, the fastidious crew at Future Studio, does “an incantation over each shirt before sending it into the world, just for good measure.” It’s available in large or extra large sizes for $16.

Among the other new items are small-pet sombreros and fezzes and a stunning Chicken Boy glass bowl ($32) etched by sandblasting. (Future Studio founder Amy Inouye explains, “I wanted to class up the catalogue just a tad.”)

There is also a videocassette of “Chicken Boy: The Movie” ($19.95). The film is billed as “a universal story about one boy chicken’s quest for true love, a perfect score in bowling, hope, accordions, dignity and a rendezvous with destiny.”

In addition, the Chicken Boy Classic T-- featuring the Boy’s motto “Too Tall to Live Too Weird to Die”--is now available in infants’ and children’s sizes ($8 and $10, respectively).

For a catalogue, send $1 to Future Studio, P.O. Box 292000, Los Angeles, Calif. 90029. To order products, call (800) 422-0505.

DEAR HOT: I’ve seen peel-off nail polish in magazines, but I can’t find it in any store. What’s the deal?

DEAR HOT SHOPPER: It’s not sold in stores. You’ve got to contact an Avon Lady or an Avon Man; call (800) 858-8000 for a referral.

Being a strictly special-occasion sort of nail-polish wearer myself, I’ve tried this stuff and it really does peel off in one piece without hijacking the top layer of your nail.

You just have to remove it somewhere between three and 24 hours after you put it on. Otherwise you’ll have to use smelly nail-polish remover.

Genuine innovations in beauty products are few and far between and this one strikes me as the nail-polish industry’s answer to the breast-pocket cellular phone.

Avon’s Quick Change Nail Color is $2.99 for a half-ounce bottle and it’s sold in eight shades. Now if we could just get them to make it in a clear color.
