Style : Design : A Cushy Kind of Club

The private party room adjoining Santa Monica’s DC3 had been a stark, hangar-like space. To reinvent it as Club Lux, impresario Smoot Hull and interior designer Ron Meyers (both of Atlas Bar & Grill fame) turned up the heat with lush fabrics and curvaceous detailing. The oversized sofas and chairs, arranged in seating areas defined by rugs and screens, give Club Lux the look of a vamped-up men’s club. Green-fringed red and gold drapes absorb noise and glow in the soft light of Meyers’ tulip-shaped wall sconces that arc overhead. Above the dance floor rise four shimmering spheres orbited by silver rings--a playful nod to discos past. But make no mistake: This is a ‘90s nightspot, designed for sophisticates more interested in conversation and cocktails than hip-hopping the night away.
