Ca$hing In on a Coup: Public radio station KCRW-FM accomplished a coup of its own during last week’s subscription drive that coincided with coverage of the Soviet coup. The Santa Monica-based station raised $344,655, about 50% more than expected. “We were expecting less,” said KCRW spokeswoman Sarah Spitz. “During an ordinary week we’d probably raise about $215,000. The phones just never stopped ringing.”
