Eddie C. Louie; News Secretary to Former Mayor Sam Yorty
Eddie C. Louie, 73, news secretary to former Mayor Sam Yorty and a veteran journalist who overcame a language barrier to become editor of several newspapers. Louie, born in China, came to Los Angeles as a boy without knowing one word of English. Despite that he became editor of both the old Polytechnic High School paper and the Daily Trojan at USC. He was a longtime photo editor at the defunct Los Angeles Herald Express and at his death editor of El Pueblo, a newspaper published by the All City Employees Benefits Service Assn. for more than 15,000 municipal employees. In Los Angeles on Aug. 21 of an aneurysm.
