West Los Angeles : 3 Charged in Court Theft

Share

Three former employees of the West Los Angeles Municipal Court have been charged with felony grand theft in the disappearance of more than $30,000 in fines from the courthouse.

The scam involved altering receipts and computerized case histories to cover up for money that was pocketed at the cashier’s window, said Marcia Skolnik, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Judicial District.

It was discovered during a routine audit, she said.

“We have taken the necessary measures to assure the security of court funds. This problem is localized, not systemic,” said Court Administrator Ed Kritzman.

The three clerks, Derriya Renee Moore, Jeanette Johnson and Anita Thomas, were fired in July and arrested on Aug. 23. They face a preliminary hearing Sept. 5 at Santa Monica Superior Court.
