Vons Negotiating for Santa Maria Chain: Arcadia-based Vons Cos. supermarket chain is exploring the possibility of acquiring Santa Maria-based Williams Bros. Markets in discussions with executives of that family-owned firm. Williams Bros. operates 19 stores along the central coast of California. Vons operates 322 stores and is the largest supermarket chain in Southern California.
