VENTURA : Police to Make Sobriety Stops
The Ventura Police Department will set up sobriety checkpoints throughout the city tonight in an effort to get drunk drivers off the road, officials said.
Sgt. George Morris said the department’s Special Operations Division will staff the checkpoints during the evening.
“The Ventura Police Department’s use of the checkpoints is an attempt to reinforce the philosophy that drinking-impaired drivers will not be tolerated,” Morris said.
Traffic officers will also be patrolling the city to apprehend suspected drunken drivers, he said.
Volunteers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving will assist officers at the checkpoints and will provide a nurse to help collect blood or breath samples from those suspected of drunken driving.
