Help Wanted: It looks like Dagwood Bumstead is going to have to make his own Dagwood sandwiches. After 60 years as a housewife, Blondie Bumstead is moving into the job market. According to Amanda Hass, a King Features spokeswoman, cartoonist Dean Young came up with the idea of Blondie going to work to supplement the family income. In honor of Labor Day, Blondie moves out of the kitchen today. (See Page E4).

Pssst, Stanford: Hood College in Maryland is trying something different to celebrate its centennial: It’s offering 10 students cheap tuition. To be eligible for a lottery, students must have a relative who attended Hood; the winners will then pay the same tuition paid by their kinfolk. This could mean $350 if, say, Aunt Ernestine went in 1945. Tuition today is $12,078. “The farther back you go, the better the bargain you’re going to get,” said Nancy Gillece, admissions director.

Don’t Cry For Her, Argentina: Just in case you were worried that Ivana Trump was dragging after her divorce from The Donald, fret no more. Reports from the other Venice have Ivana dancing into the wee hours the other day at the Pisani Moretta Palace. The occasion was to raise money to restore artworks. But it seems Ivana is being credited with raising a few other things--among them eyebrows and spirits--by wearing a form-fitting fringed mini-dress.

Scraping Spiders: Forget all that stuff you were told about itsy-bitsy spiders climbing up the water spout. In Chicago, macho spiders are scaling the Sears Tower and other skyscrapers, where people are paying big bucks for views that these days consist of webs and web-makers. Chicagoans are not amused. Says attorney Helen Morrison, who lives on the 18th floor of a condo: “I just never opened the balcony last year because they were so disgusting.”
