SIMI VALLEY : School Board OKs $75.1-Million Budget

Share

Simi Valley school board members voted Tuesday night to adopt a $75.1-million budget for the 1991-92 school year that uses lottery and one-time funds to eliminate a shortfall.

The unified school district will take in $71.2 million during the new school year but plans to spend $75.1 million. Because of a state cost-of-living adjustment and receipt of funds not originally anticipated, the deficit has been reduced from $4.3 million in June, when the board approved a tentative budget, district officials said. However, the final budget does not include any money for teacher raises. The teachers contract, which expired in June, is being negotiated by union and district officials.

The district was able to balance its budget without laying off any workers. Twenty-four teachers and one librarian were recently hired using $1.4 million in insurance reserve funds, Assistant Supt. Mary Beth Wolford said.
