* Rubbed the Wrong Way: Sen. Charles Robb of Virginia only got a back rub from lingerie model Tai Collins at a hotel, and the rest of her story about an 18-month affair between them is “malicious gossip,” according to a four-paragraph statement issued by Robb’s office late Wednesday. “Tai Collins, a professed devout Christian who has sold nude photographs of herself to Playboy magazine, has made a series of inconsistent and false charges about Senator Robb,” the statement said. “Her commercial motive is obvious.” Collins has held a press conference in Washington, D.C., to hawk the issue of Playboy.

* Fore Play: President Bush rushed out to the White House South Lawn Tuesday to try out his new toy: A nine-hole, kidney-shaped artificial-turf putting green. But the public did not see First Lady Barbara Bush and Vice President Dan Quayle putting with Bush: The course is hidden by trees and shrubs.

* Kiss and Make Up: A monthlong dispute between Brazil President Fernando Collor and his wife, Rosane, appears to have ended with a hug and a kiss. The public display of affection in Rio was the first since a tiff began after reports that she dipped into disaster-relief funds to help friends and relatives. He ordered her to resign and she refused. Thereafter the president walked several feet in front of his wife and banned her from his helicopter and limo.

* Daddy: Make that a cigar with a blue band for Hugh Hefner, who’s become a father for the fourth time. The Playboy founder’s wife, Kimberley, gave birth Wednesday to Cooper Bradford Hefner at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
