Apple Verdict Overturned: Apple Computer said a federal judge has overturned a jury verdict in a shareholder lawsuit against the company and two of its former executives, A. C. (Mike) Markkula and John Vennard. In a decision that surprised legal observers, a jury in May found that the two executives had misled shareholders about the prospects for a disk drive that Apple introduced in 1983. Damages in the case could have reached $40 million. But U.S. District Judge James Ware ruled that the evidence didn’t support the verdict and entered a judgment in favor of the two former executives, Apple said. He ordered a new trial on the allegations against the company itself.
