Henri Sonier de Lubac, 95, French cardinal and an architect of the Roman Catholic Church’s ecumenical renewal. De Lubac, who achieved the rank of cardinal in 1983, was a scholarly theologian who wrote 40 books on Catholicism and other religions. Through his career he stressed the need for diversity in the church. His views were often criticized by the Vatican and he was ordered not to teach for eight years after the 1946 publication of his “Supernatural.” On Wednesday in Paris.
