Turn It Down, Please

Share

I was surprised that last week’s Letters column about “Naked Trailers” (Aug. 25) made no reference to the very worst feature of modern movie trailers: Too loud!

Though the TV networks deny that they up the volume on commercials, you’d have to be brain-dead not to notice that they are louder than the programs. Of course, you can escape with your mute control or go get another beer, but in a movie theater, you’re trapped with hearing-damaging sound.

I suppose this sound level is meant to appeal to our unfortunate young people who have probably already suffered nerve damage from too-loud music, but I don’t believe they represent the whole movie audience. Loud is not better. It just turns you off.
