Margaret T. Frazer; Community Activist

Margaret T. Frazer, a retired licensed vocational nurse who was active in the PTA and civic organizations, has died at a Sun Valley hospital. She was 88.

The longtime Pacoima resident died Sept. 1 of complications of bronchitis and emphysema, said her son, Bill Frazer of Mission Hills. Born in Ottumwa, Iowa, she came to California in 1945 and settled in Pacoima. She was a president of the Haddon Avenue School PTA during the mid-1950s and founded the Block Mothers program, in which mothers kept watch over neighborhood children walking home from school.

Mrs. Frazer later served in leadership positions in PTAs at Pacoima Junior High School and San Fernando High School and in the San Fernando Valley Council PTA. She also served on the board of directors of now-defunct Pacoima Memorial Lutheran Hospital and in the 1960s was named Pacoima Pioneer of the Year.

After her husband, Charles K. Frazer, died in 1963, she became a licensed vocational nurse.

In addition to Bill Frazer, she is survived by her son David Frazer of Newhall, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at Glen Haven Memorial Park, San Fernando. Glen Haven Mortuary is handling arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Frazer’s name to Pacoima Community Youth Culture Center, 11243 Glenoaks Blvd., Pacoima 91331.
