Home-Front President

Share

The recent fast-breaking developments in the Soviet Union have occupied much of the time of President Bush and Secretary of State James Baker, and this has been necessary.

But on the home front we also desperately need extensive planning and leadership. For some time various political science experts have stated the need for two presidents due to the complexity of problems both abroad and at home. Serious domestic problems are staring us in the face: unemployment, hunger, housing, health, the environment, education. The list goes on.

We need a leader to direct and work with the secretaries of relevant departments. Where would such a leader come from? Congress should appoint such a leader and invest him with emergency powers.

When should the home-front leader be chosen? The time is now. We cannot afford to wait.
