Two Oxnard men who were injured in a single-car accident on Hueneme Road remained hospitalized with major injuries at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said Sunday. Oscar Garcia, 20, was in critical condition, the supervisor said, and his cousin, Enrique Garcia, 29, was in serious condition.

California Highway Patrol officials said the men were injured after the driver of the car, Rito Mercado Garcia, 19, fell asleep at the wheel about 7:50 a.m. Saturday, drifting off Hueneme Road and crashing into a power pole.

The car was traveling about 55 m.p.h., and the impact of the collision ripped off the right panel and front door of the car.
