Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Two Storms Emerge as Claudette Fades

As Hurricane Claudette grew weaker and moved into the North Atlantic after skirting Bermuda, forecasters began tracking two new tropical storms, Danny and Erika. “Danny is the one that the United States will have to pay attention to,” said Jack Beven, meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables, Fla., “but it’s too early to tell if Danny will have any effect on the United States.” Danny, with winds of up to 50 m.p.h., was in the central Atlantic about midway between the Cape Verde Islands, near Africa, and the lesser Antilles, near South America. It was moving west-northwest at 24 m.p.h. Tropical Storm Erika, with top winds of about 40 m.p.h., was about 625 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving north at about 16 m.p.h.
