World IN BRIEF : BRITAIN : Rioting Youths Set Fires, Block Roads

Rioting youths set fire to a school, a factory and shops, barricaded roads and stoned emergency service personnel in the northeastern English city of North Shields. Police said that officers battled the rioters for nearly five hours before clearing the streets in a neighborhood of high unemployment. Firefighters and ambulance crews were forced to retreat by a hail of stones and bricks from the approximately 400 rioters.
