Glendora : Developer Gets Extension

Share

A divided City Council has given Hughes Development Corp. an extra 24 months to begin construction on two stalled subdivisions.

Councilmen David Bodley and Marshall Mouw said Tuesday that the projects should be reconsidered under the city’s new hillside construction rules. But the council decided that there was no legal reason to deny extensions for Hughes’ 32-lot project at the south end of Elwood Avenue and 26-lot project at the north end of Lone Hill Avenue.

The original deadlines were Oct. 10 for the Elwood subdivision and Jan. 9 for the Lone Hill subdivision. Company President Everett Hughes said a legal challenge and lot line adjustments have held up the Lone Hill project and the need to buy land for a bridge has delayed the Elwood project.

Bodley said another reason for the delay might be a foreclosure proceeding on the Lone Hill property.

Hughes confirmed the foreclosure action but said his company is suing to block it.
