COUNTYWIDE : Picnic for Children With Cancer on Tap

Share

A nonprofit fund-raising group will hold a free picnic Saturday afternoon in Irvine for children with cancer and their families.

The afternoon of food, games and entertainment is being sponsored by Concern II, an all-volunteer organization, made up primarily of young professionals who raise money and sponsor outings for children with cancer or who are in remission.

The group, which has chapters in Orange County, Los Angeles and Cincinnati, has raised more than $2 million for cancer research in the past 10 years, with 98% of all funds raised going to research.

Saturday’s picnic, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at William R. Mason Regional Park, will include sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn, candy and soft drinks; magicians, mimes and clowns; a “fun jump” machine; and displays from the Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Fire Department.

U.S. Olympic volleyball star Mike Timmons will play volleyball with the children and Batman will make an appearance.

All children with cancer or in remission are invited to attend the picnic with their families. For more information, call Anne DeLorenzis at (714) 731-1920.
