Scrutiny Cuts Both Ways
As an individual member of the American Assn. of University Women, San Clemente-Capistrano Bay branch, I am outraged by the fact that the national president of AAUW has urged rejection of the nomination of Judge Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court “on behalf of all AAUW members.” As far as I know, there has been no poll of members to ascertain how many wish to be included in this stand.
Since the stated goals of the AAUW are the pursuit of equality for women in education and all aspects of American life, I believe that a minority of AAUW’s national organization has decided to enter politics and take this stand against Judge Thomas. I do not support such political action by AAUW.
After careful study of Judge Thomas’ background, I believe he is an excellent choice for the Supreme Court.
