NEW RELEASES : In Brief : ** Jon Lucien, “Listen Love,” Mercury.

Lucien’s formula is simple enough: Start out with a sprinkling of sensual Latin rhythms, add a few persistent, night-music chords, and spotlight his warm baritone on songs with phrases like, “Hold me, don’t let me go” and “Baby, I can feel your passion start to rise.” Hot stuff ? Sure, if a romantic evening is all you’ve got in mind. Good music ? It might be if Lucien chose songs of sufficient lyric and melodic content to provide substance for his undeniably attractive singing style.
Albums are rated on a scale of one asetrisk (poor) to four (excellent). A rating of five asterisks is reserved for classic reissues or retrospectives.
