Praise for Fish and Wildlife, Scorn for Developers in Gnatcatcher Debate
- Share via
Well, it seems once again, nature vs. mankind will come down to a battle of money over preservation.
I’m speaking, of course, of the California gnatcatcher and (the effect) its listing (as an) endangered species would have on California’s economy.
Land developers would have us believe that the entire state would financially collapse, thousands would be put out of work, and hundreds of future home buyers left homeless if such a listing occurs.
All of this, of course, is garbage.
The bottom line is that developers couldn’t care less if every species of plant and animal life disappears, or that open spaces are turned into mini-malls.
In a state already overpopulated and over-polluted we need to “just say no” to uncontrolled development.
