Defense of Disney’s Moves Draws Fire
Brian Bennett’s feeble defense of Disneyland’s blatant attempt to saddle the taxpayers with the cost of road improvements (Commentary, “Blame Process, Not the Project, for Park’s Political Blunder,” Sept. 1) that directly benefit it, reflect how out of touch he and the Anaheim City Council remain.
Not content with usually getting its way, Disneyland has gone to the state and national capitals--after all, political campaigns are up this year--to obtain highway funds for the amusement park.
The people of Anaheim are tired of having to pay for the problems created by Disneyland--Anaheim’s Measure D is a classic example. I dare say the people of California and the United States at large will feel the same way if Disneyland is able to convert political reelection funds into millions it would directly receive if the taxpayers must pay for road improvements that solely benefit it.
Disneyland will undoubtedly support Bennett’s future political ambitions. In the meantime, however, he shouldn’t lay it on so thick, the people can’t be fooled all the time.
