Donald’s Day: After Donald and Ivana Trump dropped their son, Donald Jr., off at a prep school, they hit the back-to-school sales. The divorced couple stopped at the local K mart and filled two carts, loading up on sheets, comforters and other essentials needed for dorm life at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa.

Good Connection: A disabled Connecticut woman concocted a Rube Goldberg contraption that may have saved her life. Linda L. Myers, 40, was unconscious for nearly 12 hours in her van after it was forced down an embankment by a truck near Hartford. When Myers revived, she realized her vehicle’s electrical power was out. So she took the power cord from her cellular phone, hooked one end to her wheelchair battery and the other to her CB radio and alerted a passing trucker. She was listed in satisfactory condition later at a local hospital.

Gotcha: FBI and U.S. Customs Service agents in Detroit recently arrested Robert McAngus, 46, and his wife, China, 30, and seized about 40,000 counterfeit Polo-Ralph Lauren shirts worth more than $2 million. The counterfeits were produced in China but carried “Made in USA” tags. The couple was arrested after allegedly selling 59,200 counterfeit items worth $1.4 million to undercover agents. They face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

Two Faces: They’re mobsters, say the feds. They’re philanthropists, says a hospital staff. The sons of the late mob boss Carlo Gambino have offered a $1-million-plus donation to the Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center’s children’s cancer center. Although Thomas and Joseph Gambino are under indictment for allegedly ruling Manhattan’s garment district through extortion and violence, the Gambino Medical and Science Foundation Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit will be dedicated Sept. 29.
