DEMOCRATS

Barone calls the Democrats’ opposition to the Gulf War a “colossal misjudgment” because “the U.S. was able, with minimal casualties,” to destroy Saddam’s ability to militarily threaten his neighbors.

Talk about “colossal” errors.

Minimal casualties? Two hundred thousand to 300,000 dead, 2 million refugees, the ecological catastrophe from 6 million barrels of oil burning each day in Kuwait, Saddam still in power and so on. Yet Barone cites opposition to the war and support for a peaceful resolution as proof of the Democrats’ inability to “move from a politics of adolescent rebellion to a politics based on adult responsibility” (i.e., supporting the carnage). I’ll take “adolescent rebellion” any time.
