Micropolis’ Slump Continues in 3rd Quarter

Share

The problems besetting Micropolis Corp. continued through the third quarter, and the maker of computer disk drives says it will report a loss for the period on a sharp drop in revenue.

The Chatsworth-based company did not specify how large the loss will be. But Micropolis said its revenue for the quarter ending Sept. 30 will be “significantly lower” than the $86.4 million it had in this year’s second quarter, in which the company’s profit plunged to $253,000 from $2.35 million a year earlier.

Micropolis said the main problem--which it first disclosed in June--continues to be slumping orders from computer companies that employ Micropolis’ disk drives for storing and retrieving data inside their machines.

The reduced orders and revenue, together with higher marketing and new-product development costs, will result in the third-quarter loss, the company said.
